Hull City’s Curtis Davies celebrates after the game
Hull City defender Curtis Davies has backed his former manager Steve Bruce to be a hit at Aston Villa – even suggesting to talkSPORT today (14/10/16) that Bruce would have wanted two of his new players at Hull.
Bruce took over from Roberto Di Matteo this week after the Italian failed to stop Aston Villa’s worrying start to the new campaign.
Bruce stepped down at Hull in the summer after winning them promotion to the Premier League – his fourth promotion – and Davies, himself a former Villa player, believes his old boss is the perfect option at Villa Park:

“I don’t think there was any better appointment really. The gaffer’s record speaks for itself. Four promotions.
“It’s a Villa squad that obviously has got a lot of talent in it, it just needs some guidance from someone with experience in that league.
“Four promotions, one as recent as last year, I believe he will get the best out of the players they’ve got.”

He then went on to suggest that two players at Villa would likely have been on Bruce’s shortlist if he had been backed in the transfer market at Hull:
“I think a lot of the players he liked, and would have wanted to bring to Hull. The likes of (Jonathan) Kodjia, (Ross) McCormack. I’m sure he’ll enjoy working with those players.
The two players in question, Kodjia and McCormack, were two of the best strikers in the Championship last season and Villa spent big to bring them both to the club this summer.

Bruce will now be hoping to get the best out of the pair after, especially in McCormack’s case, a failure to perform to their maximum.
If Bruce can get these once envied commodities to 100 per cent every week then Aston Villa are surely in for success under his stewardship.
