Steve Bruce beleives in Greg Luer’s potential – and he’d have a better chance of fulfilling it at Aston Villa rather than Hull City.

With Aston Villa’s squad still short in a number of areas despite spending £70 million on reinforcements this season alone, manager Steve Bruce has been somewhat inevitably tipped to make a move for a number of his former Hull City players.

Goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic is the latest to be linked to Villa Park, while George Boyd and Abel Hernandez have not been far away from the gossip columns in recent weeks.

And, according to the Birmingham Mail, Greg Luer may be another player in the frame for a reunion with Bruce come the summer.

After all, the manager brought the now-22-year-old to the KCom Stadium in January 2015, giving him a deserved opportunity at a higher level after a prolific spell with Ryman League South outfit Burgess Hill Town.

The two-footed forward has endured a frustrating two years since making that step up, however. He failed to score a single goal during loan spells at Port Vale, Stevenage and Scunthorpe United and his 2016/17 season was left in tatters by a recent five month layoff.

Yet, if there’s one manager who believes in Luer’s potential, it’s Bruce. The Argus reports that Bruce played a major role in bringing the Brighton-born striker to the Premier League, convinced as he was that Luer could make the grade.

And while he is yet to back-up those beliefs, the forward could find that working under Bruce could help him fulfil his potential. After all, a number of young players have been given opportunities this season and Luer would surely benefit from improving alongside the likes of Keinan Davis and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy.
