The Hull City man would be an excellent addition to the Sunderland squad this summer.
Black Cats boss Simon Grayson has a lot of work to do at the Stadium of Light this summer, if he is to galvanise his troops ahead of what will surely be an incredibly challenging campaign in the Champions this season.
The former Preston North End manager will obviously be looking to supplement what he already has with some new faces, and one particular area where he will surely want to improve is central midfield, especially with Jan Kirchhoff’s contract now expired on Wearside.
And with this in mind, Grayson should consider challenging Derby County for Hull City’s £2 million-rated Tom Huddlestone. According to the Daily Mail, the Rams are preparing to activate the 30-year-old’s release clause at the KCOM Stadium.
Hull City’s Tom Huddlestone and teammates celebrate
A fantastic passer of the football, and a cool and composed character, Huddlestone would be an excellent addition to the Sunderland squad. His presence at the Stadium of Light would also surely prove to be a huge boost to their hopes of achieving promotion to the Premier League.
The former Tottenham Hotspur star, who has four England caps to his name, would be the ideal partner for Lee Cattermole at the heart of the Black Cats’ midfield, and there would surely not be too many better parings in the Championship.
The major problem for Sunderland will be the fierce competition they will face for Huddlestone’s signature, but if Grayson can convince him into making the switch to Wearside, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Sunderland, as far as their hopes of promotion are concerned.
