The centre-back beats West Ham’s James Collins to top spot.
Hull City’s Curtis Davies celebrates after the game
The Premier League season is now five games old and whilst it is too early in the season to be making assumptions about who will finish where or who the stars of the show will be come the end of the campaign, it is still interesting to see how the statistics are shaping up at this early stage of the season.
So who has made the most successful interceptions in the Premier League so far this season?
Hull City fans will not be surprised to see it is their inspirational centre-back who tops the table.
| Position | Team | Interception Won | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Curtis Davies | DF | Hull | 35 | 5 | 450 |
| James Collins | DF | West Ham | 21 | 5 | 450 |
| Scott Dann | DF | C. Palace | 19 | 5 | 450 |
| Nacho Monreal | DF | Arsenal | 19 | 5 | 434 |
| Oriol Romeu | MF | Southampton | 19 | 5 | 372 |
Curtis Davies has been excellent for The Tigers this season and has made 35 interceptions this season – beating his nearest rival by 14.
Hull’s captain has been fantastic for them this season, helping them to a surprisingly healthy start despite big off-field problems.
West Ham fans will however be surprised to see one of their players in second place. Welsh international James Collins is in second position – despite what has been a poor start to the campaign for West Ham.
West Ham United’s Adrian with James Collins
Certainly his statistic reads well, but his performances have not been up to scratch.
The rest of the top five includes Arsenal’s left-back Nacho Monreal, Crystal Palace defender Scott Dann and Southampton’s often overlooked Oriol Romeu.
Hull fans will hope that Davies can keep up his form for the rest of the season. West Ham fans will hope that Collins’ performances soon mirror his stats.
