Kamil Grosicki has been an inspired signing for Hull City since moving from Rennes in Ligue 1 – and Everton are paying for not moving fast enough.
It’s an indication of Marco Silva’s impact at Hull City’s that the starting XI from their 2-0 win against Watford on Saturday contained six players he brought to the club in January. And, once again, Polish winger Kamil Grosicki was instrumental as The Tigers sealed a sixth win in seven home games under the Portuguese boss.
It’s suddenly clear why Premier League rivals Everton were linked with a £6.6 million move last summer, as reported by Ouest France.
Finally arriving in England in January for £8 million, according to the Hull Daily Mail, few players have made as much of an impact in their new surroundings as the former Rennes winner. It was his sublime cross which set up fellow mid-season recruit Lazaar Markovic for the opener against Watford, while his direct running and industrious work rate off the ball earned him plaudits once again.
That was his third assist since moving to Humberside. He also set up a goal in the 4-2 thumping of relegation rivals Middlesbrough, just a few days after coming off the bench to inspire a second half turnaround against West Ham.
And, while Grosicki was sending Hull supporters into raptures at the KCom, Everton were toiling at the London Stadium. In a dour goalless draw with West Ham, The Toffees failed to register a single shot on target.
Manager Ronald Koeman could have been forgiven for thinking he could call upon a player with Grosicki’s creativity and diligence. Kevin Mirallas once again flattered to deceive while Ross Barkley fell well below his recent high standards.
