The Tigers’ full-back was closing in on a return from injury before suffering his latest setback.
Hull City have been dealt a major injury blow, with The Sun reporting that crocked right-back Moses Odubajo will miss the rest of the year after damaging his kneecap in training.
The jet-heeled 23-year-old had been pencilled in for a return to first-team action next month after suffering a serious knee injury in the Tigers first pre-season friendly against Grimsby in July.
However, the Englishman’s latest setback means that Mike Phelan will be without him until 2017.
The news could not come at a worse time for Phelan, with the Tigers sliding down the Premier League table in recent weeks after a run of four straight league defeats, including last weekend’s humiliating 6-1 surrender at Bournemouth, counteracted their good early season form.
Odubajo enjoyed a terrific first season at the KC Stadium after joining Hull from Brentford at the start of the 2015-16 campaign, with the exciting youngster making 45 appearances for the Tigers in all competitions as Steve Bruce’s side bounced back to the top flight at the first time of asking courtesy of the play-offs.
However, the hapless 23-year-old will now have to wait even longer for his eagerly-anticipated Premier League debut, with makeshift right-back Ahmed Elmohamady likely to deputise in his absence.
The attacking forays of intrepid young full-backs Odubajo and Andrew Robertson were a major factor in Hull’s success last season, and the Tigers’ will now be without the influential pair for a prolonged period, after news broke earlier this week that Scottish international Robertson will also be sidelined for two months with a calf injury.
