Tottenham Hotspur lost to Monaco in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Michael Dawson of Hull City celebrates
Hull City defender Michael Dawson told Sky Sports Soccer Special on Wednesday night that he felt Tottenham didn’t get what they deserved against Monaco.
Spurs returned to the Champions League for the first time since the 2010/11 season on Wednesday night, as they hosted Monaco at Wembley Stadium in front of a record crowd for an English team in Europe’s premier club competition.

What was supposed to be a great night for Spurs turned into a nightmare, as first half goals from Bernardo Silva and Thomas Lemar – aided by some shambolic Tottenham defending – put Monaco 2-0 up to crash the party.
Toby Alderweireld did pull a goal back for Spurs with a header from an Erik Lamela corner, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men couldn’t find the equaliser, and started their Champions League campaign with a defeat.
Spurs must now turn things around quickly if they want to make it through to the knockout stages of the competition, and former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has commented on the game.

Working as a pundit for Sky Sports on their Soccer Special show on Wednesday night, Dawson suggested that Tottenham didn’t get what they deserved against Monaco, having dominated possession.
Dawson noted that Tottenham now face an uphill battle to qualify now, especially given that they must travel to Moscow to take on CSKA Moscow in their next Champions League game.
The 32-year-old, who made more than 300 appearances for Spurs, added that he doesn’t think Pochettino will be too disheartened by the performance, and thinks they will be happy to back at White Hart Lane against Sunderland this weekend.

“No they didn’t,” said Dawson when asked whether Spurs got what they deserved. “They certainly deserved something out of the game. You see the possession that Spurs had, it just shows that possession doesn’t win football matches. To go to Wembley and get that result is a great start for Monaco, but it’s now an uphill battle for Spurs to get out of the group, going to Moscow with their next game.”
“I think the way that the players performed, Pochettino won’t be too disheartened. They did play well, they did dominate, and Hugo Lloris was a spectator in the Spurs goal. I don’t believe it will (impact them in the Premier League), Spurs will be happy to be back at White Hart Lane, where their home is, and they’ll be looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League,” he added.
