We take a look at the former Manchester United coach’s highlights as he has finally been offered a permanent job at Hull City
Hull City caretaker manager Mike Phelan
The months of frustration for Hull City caretaker manager Mike Phelan are over as the club has finally decided on his future, according to the BBC.
The 53-year-old said he has been offered the job on a permanent basis but that he is in “no great rush” to sort out the finer details of an agreement, instead focusing on the Premier League games in front of him.
The former Man United coach took over managing duties when Steve Bruce left in July and has done plenty to earn the nod from his club.
Here’s three of his highlights from his time with Hull.
Hull City FC 2-1 Leicester City FC

With only 13 fit players, Phelan lead the team to an opening day win over League champions Leicester City.
The shock victory from the newly-promoted club was the first time the reigning English champions had opened the following season with a loss since 1989, when Arsenal lost to Manchester United.
Phelan’s makeshift team was expected to be canon-fodder for the Foxes after a turbulent off-season but the manager had clearly instilled his squad with the belief that they could win as they caused plenty of problems for the visiting side and came away with the surprise three points.
Swansea 0-2 Hull City FC
With his side still plagued with injury, the caretaker boss headed to Swansea with the same line-up that beat Leicester.
And the Tigers proved they meant business by defying the odds yet again to claim their second victory in two games with Scottish midfielder Robert Snodgrass proving invaluable.
Premier League Manager of the Month

With such a positive start to the season in potentially dire circumstances, Mike Phelan beat Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho, Machester City’s Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte of Chelsea to claim Manager of the Month for August.
After his opening day win against Leicester, Phelan took his team to Swansea where they claimed their second victory, before only being denied a point by Rashford’s 92nd minute winner at the KCOM stadium to end their unbeaten streak.
On receiving the award, he said: “It’s an honour you don’t expect, being caretaker manager. It’s a credit to the football club and to the players for all their endeavours that have given me this achievement.”
Hull currently sit at 8th in the table and will host Arsenal on Saturday who are only one place above them on goal difference.
