Hull City caretaker boss Mike Phelan brought in a number of players on deadline day.
Caretaker manager Mike Phelan says Hull City decided to bring in Dieumerci Mbokani on a season-long loan deal as the club wished to add a target man up front, the club’s official website report.
The DR Congo international joined the Tigers on loan from Dynamo Kyiv on deadline day as the club desperately looked to add more players following a summer of turmoil.
Steve Bruce left Hull ahead of the season and injuries to key players meant the squad looked extremely light on numbers in key areas with deadline day approaching.
Hull did manage to bring in six new permanent signings and two loanees before the window shut, and one of those was Mbokani who spent last season as a fringe player on loan at relegated Norwich City.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Phelan explained the decision to bring in Mbokani was due to a lack of target men at the club and believes the striker will add a different kind of threat up top.
“Dieumerci is available and he will be part of the group. He’s had ten days to understand what this place is all about and he has fitted in well,” Phelan said ahead of Hull’s game with Arsenal this weekend.

“The reason we brought him here is to add something a bit different. We haven’t had a target man at this club for a while. We have four strikers here now who can all offer different things and give us a bit of variety.”
“Dieumerci is one of those who can change things if we need it.”
The 30-year-old striker scored seven Premier League goals for Norwich last season, though it ultimately wasn’t enough as the Canaries suffered an immediate relegation back to the Championship.
Hull, despite a difficult summer, have started the season well and have picked up seven points from a possible 12 as they look to gain another positive result at home to Arsenal this weekend.
