Hull City goalkeeper David Marshall has been linked with Liverpool.
New Hull City manager Grant McCann has suggested David Marshall will leave the club at the end of June when his contract expires with Liverpool said to be interested in the goalkeeper, Hull Daily Mail report.
“I’m working with what’s here at the moment. I wouldn’t imagine David [Marshall] will be back, you’ve seen Matt [Ingram] coming in and we’re quite pleased with what we’ve got in the goalkeeping situation.” McCann said.
According to Alan Nixon in The Scottish Sun, Liverpool are interested in signing David Marshall.
The 34-year-old shot-stopper’s contract at Hull expires this summer. He is expected to leave when his deal is up on June 30, with The Tigers seemingly unable to offer him a new deal due to financial restrictions.
Liverpool may see Marshall as an ideal experienced third-choice. The Reds currently have Alisson Becker and Simon Mignolet on the books, but it only takes an injury or suspension to leave them short.
It has become increasingly common for Premier League clubs to have experienced third-choice goalkeepers on the books. Lee Grant at Manchester United, Rob Green at Chelsea and now David Martin at West Ham United.
Marshall has been Hull’s number one goalkeeper over the past 12 months. He made 43 Championship starts last term, and he recently played in Scotland’s back-to-back Euro 2020 qualifiers against Belgium and Cyprus.
His impending exit from the KCOM Stadium could alert Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp into making a move. However, the Reds would likely face competition for his signature, perhaps from north of the border.
Hull, meanwhile, have signed Matt Ingram from Queens Park Rangers as Marshall’s replacement.
