A report suggests bad news for Steve Bruce, though Sheffield Wednesday may see things differently.
Hull boss Bruce
Hull City boss Steve Bruce has been dealt a blow with the Tigers board limiting him to free transfers only, the Sun reports (Friday edition, page 54).
It is claimed the newly-promoted side do not want to fork out for fee-paying transfers amid uncertainty over a proposed takeover at the KC Stadium.
The news comes a day after centre-back Michael Dawson became the seventh Hull star to be sidelined through injury, leaving Bruce, who is yet to make any new signings, with a player shortage ahead of their season opener at home to Premier League champions Leicester City.

The 55-year-old also appears to have been snubbed by the Football Association in favour of Sam Allardyce, despite also holding talks over the vacant England manager’s job.

Hull’s predicament will no doubt leave Sheffield Wednesday feeling somewhat relieved, given the Tigers’ alleged interest in goalkeeper Keiren Westwood.
The Sun this week linked Bruce with a reunion with the Irishman he signed for Sunderland five years ago, with a £2 million fee mooted.

And the Tigers had also been tipped to make a £5 million move for West Brom winger Callum McManaman, who is a reported target for the Owls (also Sun).
