Hugo Lloris suggests what Tottenham needed to do more often against West Brom

Tottenham Hotspur had to come from behind to settle for a 1-1 draw with West Brom in the Premier League.

Hugo Lloris has suggested to The Telegraph that Tottenham needed to be more aggressive in the opposition penalty box and not afraid to take players on during their draw with West Brom at the weekend.

Spurs were unable to follow up their latest fantastic European win in midweek – they beat Borussia Dortmund in the Westfalenstadion to secure top spot in their Champions League group – with another victory as the Baggies held firm at Wembley and actually led for the majority of the game.

Harry Kane equalised 70 minutes after Salomon Rondon’s opener, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men were unable to find a winner which – after the weekend’s games – leaves them fifth in the table and 13 points off current leaders Manchester City.

And Lloris has suggested what he feels the side should have perhaps done differently in an attempt to unlock the West Brom defence as they searched for an equaliser and then a winner.

“It’s a good thing to have the quality to make passing and moving, but sometimes you need to take on a player and be more aggressive in the box, and that’s what we missed a little bit,” he said, as reported by The Telegraph.

“If you are more aggressive in the box – in the way you run, demand the ball, pass the ball, kick the ball – it’s difficult for the opponent. But we need to stay calm and positive and carry on, because there are still a lot of games ahead of us and a lot of points to play for.”

Unfortunately for Tottenham, their emergence as a heavyweight in the top flight has seemingly meant that a number of sides look to frustrate them when they come up against them, and there have been a few occasions when Spurs have found that challenge particularly difficult.

They have only managed to put one goal past Burnley, Barnsley, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and now West Brom when they have hosted those five sides at Wembley, while they also failed to score in the home clash with Swansea, so perhaps finding a way to unlock sides who plan to simply sit deep is something that Pochettino seriously needs to think about.
