Tottenham Hotspur’s strict wage structure appears set to claim another victim this summer with Toby Alderweireld set to leave.
Spurs are reluctant to commit to big money deals for the players which will see them paying big money into their 30s.
And chairman Daniel Levy’s stance is being helped by the indifferent form of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Lloris’ performances have taken a noticeable dip this season, just one year after he signed a long-term deal.
The goalkeeper is among Tottenham’s top earners, with The Telegraph reporting he matched Harry Kane on £100,000 per week plus bonuses.
Lloris is now under contract to Spurs until 2022, which appeared to be smart, but his dip in form makes his wages a bit of a concern.
If Spurs want to move him on, it will be more difficult.
Tottenham’s players need Lloris to step up and get back to his best.
As at present, he is proving Daniel Levy right in his caution against handing expensive deals to Alderweireld, 29, and Dembele, 30.
