Tottenham Hotspur defender Kieran Trippier has been in shaky form defensively this season.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris may not have mentioned Kieran Trippier by name, but his comments to the Daily Mirror seem like a warning to the right-back.

Trippier was guilty of gifting Wolverhampton Wanderers a way back into the match at the weekend, when they took on Tottenham.

The England international tried to nutmeg a Wolves attacker just outside his own box, but he gave the ball away.

In the end, Wolves almost came back from 3-0 to claim a point, but they just fell short.

And Lloris’ comments after the contest surely suggest that he feels Trippier needs to stop taking so many risks.

“If we have to play a different way, we have to play a different way. Today we could have managed the game in another way. At 3-0, you do not have to press,” Lloris said.

“Whatever is the score we try to play the same way. If it is 0-0, 3-0 or 1-0 down but in this type of play we have to be more clever with the ball and without the ball. We need to learn.”

Trippier could be selected to start again for Tottenham tonight, and he simply cannot afford to make another error.

Spurs have to beat PSV Eindhoven this evening, otherwise they will have no chance of qualifying from their Champions League group.
