The Hull City midfielder suffered a serious head injury at the weekend.
This weekend’s Premier League football has been marred by the serious injury suffered by Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason.
There were immediate concerns for the midfielder’s well-being when he clashed heads with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill. It was later confirmed that he had suffered a fractured skull and had to undergo surgery.

Of course, this was felt keenly at Tottenham Hotspur, his former club. Mason spent 17 years at the club from the age of eight and his former team-mates were all wishing him well in his recovery.
Tottenham Hotspur’s captain Hugo Lloris shared his concern. Speaking to RMC Sport in his native France he remembered his serious head injury against Everton three years ago – that thrust head injuries in football back into the limelight:
“It’s happened to me three years ago at Everton. I had a head shock with (Romelu) Lukaku. I remained on the ground. I should not have continued the game. That situation could have happened in any other championship, I think.
“But it is true that there is this culture of engagement in England. The referees favor the game. They sometimes leave too much to play but that’s how the championship works.
“Unfortunately for Ryan, our former teammate, at the time he remained on the ground. Fortunately, he should get better I believe.”

Lloris did not suffer a serious injury like Mason’s but was severely concussed and pushed to come back into the game himself.
The rules have now changed and Lloris would have to be taken off in such an instance if it occurred again.
Lloris and Tottenham will undoubtedly be wishing Mason well and hope that head injuries continue to be taken seriously throughout the football world.
