Mark Warburton currently has a few options in that position within his Glasgow Rangers squad.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
Former Rangers defender Hugh Burns has admitted that he likes the partnership of Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson but expressed his disappointment that the club do not have a young centre-back coming through the ranks at Ibrox, the Daily Record reports.
Following the closure of the transfer window, Mark Warburton has just a handful of options to pick from with Philippe Senderos and Clint Hill providing competition for Kiernan and Wilson.
Rangers’ Philippe Senderos
And with none of the quartet really stamping their authority on a place in the team thus far this term, Burns has suggested that Warburton could do with another option to call upon, though he also believes that the Gers may already boast a promising partnership in their squad.
“It’s a just a pity there is not a big, raw centre-half coming through the ranks at Murray Park,” he said, as reported by the Record.
Danny Wilson
“I liked the partnership of Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson and still believe they could work in the top flight.”
One player that is yet to receive his first-team debut for the Light Blues is David Bates. The 19-year-old joined the club on loan from Raith Rovers in the summer, but it would undoubtedly be a gamble to throw him in currently while the team are trying to pull themselves through a difficult spell.
But with Senderos and Hill struggling to prove themselves, while Wilson and Kiernan have also been guilty of mistakes at times, Bates may be thinking that if he can impress enough when he features for the youth team, he may be handed the chance to show what he can do in the future.
