What a day it was for Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka on Thursday.
It was announced yesterday afternoon that the 19-year-old Gunners gem had been called up into the England squad for the first time by Gareth Southgate.
But the feel-good sensation didn’t end there for Saka, who later on helped Arsenal into the quarter-final of the League Cup.
Most of the Gunners’ attacks at Anfield started with Saka, who was replaced by Ainsley Maitland-Niles on 86 minutes.
And Stephen Warnock has told BBC Radio 5 Live that he was ‘hugely impressed’ by the teen.
He said: “I’ve been hugely impressed by Bukayo Saka this season and last season. His versatility, he looks impressive at left-back and drives forward from midfielder. He’s well balanced.”
If Saka’s second season in Arsenal’s senior squad is better than his first, it’s such an exciting prospect.
The youngster set up 11 goals for the Emirates Stadium side in all competitions last term and there’s no doubt that working under Mikel Arteta can help take him to the next level again.
He might have to bide his time and stay patient, because Arteta has quite a few wide players at his disposal – and another who he plays out wide, in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – but Saka has a great head on his shoulders and there’s no doubt that he’ll do what he’s told.
