Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Athletic‘s David Ornstein revealed that a deal for Brighton’s Ben White is edging closer.

What’s the story?

Well, the latest news is that Arsenal have submitted an improved bid worth £45 million for the defender, plus another £5 million in add-ons.

The Seagulls want a guaranteed £50 million, so talks will now take place regarding how likely it is for Brighton to receive that additional £5 million.

Ornstein adds that a deal is not far off.

The Athletic‘s story also reveals that Arsenal and Brighton have a very strong relationship, raising the likelihood of a deal materialising.

Ornstein also claims personal terms are not expected to be an issue.

In fact, the Guardian believe White has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners.

Should this be Mikel Arteta’s priority?

Above all, there’s no denying that White is a phenomenal centre-back, who has the potential to become one of the best in his position.

However, is this really where Mikel Arteta feels he needs to strengthen first this summer, before any other business?

Arsenal struggled going forward in 2020/21, netting just 55 goals in the Premier League.

In comparison, the north Londoners scored 73 goals in the 2018/19 Premier League season.

If we were in charge, we’d probably be searching for a prolific frontman before adding anymore defenders to what is an already solid backline.

Arsenal conceded just 39 goals in the Premier League last term, making them the third-most formidable side in that respect.

Having said that, you can’t be annoyed with a player of White’s quality coming to the Emirates Stadium.

Having lost David Luiz, this is a fine way for Arteta to replace him.

Let’s see how the Arsenal fans on Twitter reacted to Ornstein’s news…
