Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has said that he does not want to leave the Bhoys, amid interest from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the summer transfer window, as quoted in Bold.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all are interested in signing O’Riley from Celtic this summer, according to a report in ESPN last week.

The report claimed that Newcastle United are also looking to secure the services of the 21-year-old Danish midfielder before the summer transfer window closes this week.

Celtic do not want to sell the youngster, but the defending Scottish Premiership champions could be tempted to cash in on him for £15-£20 million, according to the report.

Matt O’Riley on Celtic future amid Arsenal and Liverpool interest

O’Riley told Bold, as translated by 67HailHail: “Yes, there are some clubs who have inquired about me. I can’t say which clubs, though. But while it’s great to know there’s a lot of interest in me, I’ve only got one thing on my mind and that’s to do well for Celtic.

“I have no plans to leave Celtic, so if nothing happens, nothing happens, and that’s fine. I’m really happy to be at the club where we’re also going to play the Champions League, which I’m really looking forward to. It’s huge.

“I am aware and have heard about the interest from some of the big clubs, but I must admit that it is not something that I think about so much.”

Could a transfer happen?

In our view, Celtic could sell Matt O’Riley to Arsenal or Liverpool if the Gunners or the Reds make a big offer.

After all, the Hoops paid only £1.5 million for the midfielder in January 2022, so a potential offer of £20 million would be very tempting to them.

The Danish midfielder made five start and six substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership during the second half of last season.

O’Riley scored three goals and gave three assists in those matches.

The midfielder has given three assists in five league appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s side so far this campaign.
