Liverpool fans have been left angry over a report in the Daily Mail which claims that they are not planning to make any central defensive signings in the January transfer window.

Liverpool have been hit hard by injury problems this season, with Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk both out for the long term and Joel Matip now also sidelined.

Matip’s injury means that the inexperienced Nathaniel Phillips or Rhys Williams will have to come into their starting line-up over the coming weeks.

But Klopp is not said to be concerned at all about giving the young pair a chance.

Indeed, the Mail suggests that Klopp is still adamant that they will not be making a signing in the coming weeks, despite the transfer window reopening.

That news has concerned many Liverpool fans, who feel that they could be making a huge mistake.

Klopp is showing great faith in Phillips and Williams currently, but Liverpool fans’ concerns are understandable.

If Liverpool’s crisis at the back gets any worse then they could well face the realistic possibility of having to play Jordan Henderson and Fabinho at the heart of their defence.

While Fabinho has actually been excellent at the back, he is more comfortable in a midfield role, and teams would surely target Liverpool’s backline as a weakness, if it does start to look particularly makeshift.
