Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to Mikel Arteta’s injury update on Gabriel Magalhaes ahead of their showdown against Manchester City on Saturday.
The 23-year-old is yet to feature for Arsenal this season after sustaining an injury before he was due to take part in the Olympics with Brazil.
This is what Arteta told Football London about Gabriel and his current injury status:
“He’s getting closer. He’s had a couple of sessions with the team. But we don’t know let’s see tomorrow how he is.”
This news is music to the ears of Arsenal supporters because they understand how much they have missed the £23 million man’s (BBC Sport) presence at the back.
Arteta hasn’t been able to play his strongest XI yet, especially at the back, with injuries and COVID issues hampering him.
But with Pablo Mari struggling against Romelu Lukaku last Sunday, it’s obvious that Arteta needs one of his star defenders back in action.
Plus, the Arsenal faithful are looking forward to Gabriel possibly pairing up with Ben White.
Or perhaps, if Arteta can get all his centre-backs fit, then he might play a back three.
Either way, this is huge news for Arsenal fans and positive signs that goods things are to come.
It has been all doom and gloom of late, although beating West Brom 6-0 on Wednesday night in the EFL Cup did put some much-needed smiles on faces.
