Liverpool are ‘looking carefully’ at the situation of Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi ahead of the January transfer window.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who claim that the Reds would like to bring Hudson-Odoi to Anfield.

Hudson-Odoi has only played 82 minutes of Premier League action this season. Right now, it looks more likely that he will play as a wing back than a winger.

Few would blame Hudson Odoi for being unhappy with his current situation at Chelsea – but does a move to Liverpool really add up?

Chelsea surely wouldn’t let Hudson-Odoi move to Anfield

Chelsea are tough dealers in the transfer market at the best of times.

Roman Abramovich and Marina Granovskaia are unlikely to sell a player if it strengthens a direct rival.

Liverpool and Chelsea both have dreams of challenging for the Premier League title this season. Letting Hudson-Odoi go to the Reds in January could help Jurgen Klopp’s side against the Blues.

That just doesn’t seem like something Chelsea would be interested in. Hudson-Odoi has three years left on his £100,000-a-week deal, so the Blues would be under no pressure to sell to Liverpool anyway.

Do Liverpool actually need Hudson-Odoi?

Adding another attacker should be a priority for Liverpool, but maybe a striker would be better than a winger.

Liverpool have two wingers who could be stars of the future in Harvey Elliott and Kaide Gordon.

Splashing big money on another young English winger could see the duo stunted over the years to come.

A striker or even another player like Diogo Jota, who can play up front or out wide, would make a little more sense.

Seeking attacking additions is the right step for Liverpool, but a move for Hudson-Odoi just doesn’t sound likely.
