The Derby man is finally set to move to Huddersfield after the newly promoted side initially had a bid knocked back.

Derby County will be losing their best player in Tom Ince after it emerged that Huddersfield Town are closing in on his signature, with the Terriers returning with a much improved bid for the 25-year-old that will be accepted, as reported by BBC Sport.

Ince was in scintillating form last season for the Rams and scored 14 goals in 45 Championship matches from the wing, as well as claiming six assists, but was unable to get the club into the play-offs – though given Derby had three permanent managers last season, there’s only so much he can do.

That blistering form caught the attention of Huddersfield, but David Wagner’s side initially had a £7m bid rejected – though now it seems that they’ve returned with a bid closer to Derby’s £10m valuation of Ince, which is enough for Rams’ officials to allow the player’s departure.

Derby boss Gary Rowett had previously spoken out about how important it was for the club to sell players on their own terms, in the sense that the club’s valuation had to be met, and it seems he’s gotten his wish in that regards when it comes to Ince.

“Tom is a player that scored 15 goals last season and it is very difficult to replace that but it is also very difficult to keep a player that has an opportunity to play in the Premier League,” Rowett said, as reported by the Derby Telegraph. “We have set a valuation that allows us to strengthen in different ways.

“If a team meets that valuation then we will consider selling any of our players. We have some fantastic players and the deals have to be right for any of those players.”

Things are interesting in regards to what happens next, especially at how Derby will reinvest that money, with Rowett looking to mould a squad in his own shape and style ahead of the 2017/18 season with a promotion push the minimum expectancy at Pride Park.

Then there’s how Ince will fare in the Premier League in a side largely expected to struggle, though from a Huddersfield perspective – even if they are to be relegated – if they can keep hold of Ince’s services, they can look to return to the top flight in a much stronger state.
