Leeds lost the West Yorkshire derby 2-1 and were leapfrogged by their rivals.

Leeds United suffered defeat in the Championship today at the hands of their West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers won 2-1 thanks to a late winning goal from Michael Hefele. The German defender found himself in front of goal late on and gave Huddersfield the win, sparking a mass celebration from the home side.

Leeds United were incensed by the excessive celebrations from Huddersfield manager David Wagner and his players, with both Wagner and Monk sent to the stands.

It was a game full of emotion and afterwards, the goalscorer, could not contain his happiness.

Hefele is quoted by the Daily Star as giving an expletive ridden answer regarding his feelings about scoring the goal:

“What I think, that is a f****** dream because all the big players get this and I’m just happy.”

“We just look at the next game on Saturday.

“We want to have fresh legs.

“We just believe in ourselves, have no limits and work hard every day.”

Leeds United fans will be reeling by the nature of the defeat and automatic promotion is still looking like more of a pipe-dream than a reality.

The result sees Huddersfield leapfrog Leeds in the top six and many a fan will no doubt be hoping the pair meet in the play-offs at the end of the season after what has been an epic battle this afternoon.
