The Terriers have lost to two sides fighting for the drop in amazing circumstances.
Huddersfield manager David Wagner
As Jackson Irvine slammed home a 96th minute winner for Burton Albion against Huddersfield Town, the reality set in that David Wagner’s side are nowhere near equipped for the Premier League,
Huddersfield may be third in the Championship, but two truly shambolic results against relegation threatened Bristol City – an inexplicable 4-0 loss – and now Burton, also in serious relegation danger, proved that Town simply aren’t good or deserving enough for the top flight.
The writing was on the wall following Huddersfield’s 3-2 win against Rotherham United, one of the worst teams the Championship has ever seen, yet it required a 90th minute Tom Smith goal to claim a win.
If Huddersfield are going to perform this badly against teams scrapping for survival in the Championship, how are they going to cope against the bigger boys in the Premier League? The FA Cup gave us a glimpse, and the answer is very badly going by their 5-1 loss to a Manchester City side in second gear for 90 minutes.
Ipswich Town’s Jonas Knudsen in action with Huddersfield Town’s Sean Scannell
Wagner obviously has a lot of managerial ability, otherwise Huddersfield wouldn’t be where they are at present, but going by their struggles against relegation threatened sides, fixtures to come against Nottingham Forest, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City don’t bode well.
The play-offs represents a lottery and it would take a complete implosion for Huddersfield to fall out now, but going by results against those sides, this Town team would come straight back down with a bang if they won promotion to the Premier League.
