Leeds United take on Huddersfield Town in the West Yorkshire derby today, with the Terriers in unfamiliar position of being the overwhelming favourites.

Under German boss David Wagner Huddersfield have been a revelation this season and are currently top of the Championship table.

Huddersfield also beat Leeds in their last meeting back in March, thrashing them 4-1 as the Wagner train got up and running.

Wagner’s celebrations after that game were akin to his good pal Jurgen Klopp, and commenting on them this week he told the Huddersfield Town YouTube channel:

“To be fair I always enjoy to win games. Maybe (this one more) just a little bit.

“This is normal, if you play a local derby. Then you enjoy it more than other games.

“But three points is the most important thing.”

With that in mind the Huddersfield boss believes there has never been a better time to play Leeds in this local derby:

“There is no better time for us to play Leeds United then at this moment.”

He also told the press that he was in no doubt that the Huddersfield players knew the importance of this fixture to the Terriers fans:

“They will know it before Saturday, shortly before we go on our coach and drive to the stadium.

“I am sure in the dressing room there has been conversations about the local derby. Every player knows about playing derbies, maybe not this one, but at other clubs.

“They know how important it is.”

Leeds will be looking for their first win at Elland Road this season and will also be hoping to silence their currently buoyant neighbours.

Huddersfield fans certainly take more importance from this game than the Leeds supporters, but Garry Monk will certainly have some grief on his hands if he cannot pull off a result in this derby clash.
