Everton links to Harry Maguire could leave the future of Phil Jagielka in doubt this summer.

The Mirror have reported that both Tottenham and Everton are targeting Hull City centre-back Harry Maguire this summer at a fee of approximately £22million.

The 24-year-old had an impressive Premier League campaign with the relegated Tigers, making 36 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals.

His possible arrival at Ronald Koeman’s Everton could fuel speculation about the departure of Phil Jagielka, who had a poor season for much of the campaign for the Toffees and would likely be the one to be dropped from the starting line-up in favour of Maguire.

Jagielka’s contract expires at the end of next season and Everton could potentially look to cash in on their captain before losing him for free, and Huddersfield should be the ones to sign him.

The Terriers were promoted to the Premier League on Monday after beating Reading 4-3 on penalties, following a goalless 120 minutes at Wembley.

David Wagner’s side will have a lot of work to do in the coming transfer window as they bid to retain their Premier League status for more than one season, and the signing of a top-flight veteran in Jagielka would certainly be a step in the right direction.

The 34-year-old’s experience would be invaluable to a Huddersfield team who conceded 58 goals in the 2016/17 Championship season, with only Reading having a worse record among the top six.

They were also the lowest scoring side of the top-six, making the signing of the Everton captain even more important ahead of their Premier League season.

Wagner’s team will need a strong defence to survive the scrap to escape relegation next season and Phil Jagielka’s vast experience could make the difference between relegation and safety.
