In September, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe confirmed that there is no likelihood that he succeeds Gareth Southgate as England manager (via the Mirror).

However, the suggestions around the 45-year-old potentially stepping in for the Three Lions boss after his nation’s exit from the World Cup seem to be making a return online.

In our view: Howe should say no in order to stay at St. James’ Park

And simply put, it would not make sense for Eddie Howe to bid farewell to the Magpies to become the new England manager.

While the former Bournemouth tactician would most certainly be the right fit for the role, there arguably is not a more exciting project in world football than Newcastle.

To be the man that steers such a sleeping giant of a football club back to the glory days is as enticing a possibility as it gets for any manager.

With the club’s owners also steering a measured approach to ensuring Newcastle return to the top, the success is manifesting itself on the pitch already.

While Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and their wealth of resources have been documented in detail, the fact that they have chosen not to make the rookie mistake of going big for the sake of doing so must encourage Howe.

Instead, the astute recruitment policy has seen the arrivals of stupendous pick-ups such as Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope.

And Howe himself has played a vital role in the side climbing up the footballing ladder, with his counter-attacking philosophy bought into by both the players and the fans.

Considering Newcastle’s takeover became official in October, as they were languishing in 19th place in the Premier League, the fact that they have catapulted to 3rd place in such a short space of time is testament to how far Howe can take this club in the future.

Yes, becoming the man to replace Gareth Southgate as England manager is an incredible opportunity.

But to throw everything he has already built at Newcastle and could in the future for the Three Lions job would be a rash career move from Eddie Howe.
