Zinedine Zidane has made the incredible decision to step down as Real Madrid boss, just days after becoming the first manager in history to win a hat-trick of Champions League trophies, according to Sky Sports.

The 45-year-old replaced the now Newcastle coach Rafa Benitez in 2016, and has come under scrutiny for winning only one La Liga title in two-and-a-half years with the club – despite winning nine trophies, including three European titles.

The unexpected decision has disappointed club president Florentino Perez who claimed “I wanted him to be next to me forever,” and will be sure to upset a number of players at the Bernabeu.

One of the few players that will likely be welcoming new management in Madrid, is superstar winger Gareth Bale, who netted a sensational brace from the bench in Kiev.

The 28-year-old revealed reservations regarding his playing time with Los Blancos shortly after securing the title, while speaking to BT Sport, claiming he needs to be playing “week in, week out,” after a campaign where he largely played second-fiddle to Isco.

Gareth Bale of Real Madrid CF leaves the pitch following his side victory in the UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool on May 26, 2018 in Kiev, Ukraine.

Shortly after, rumours linking Bale with a return to Tottenham emerged (the Independent), and fans began dreaming. But the departure of Zidane could see a new manager come in and give Bale a crucial role in the first-team; which is more likely than not, given how the Welsh international ended the season.

Bale has constantly asserted that Real Madrid is the biggest club in world football, and if he’s given assurances over his role in the side, he’ll likely stay for the foreseeable future.
