A potential new arrival could push the talented Tottenham Hotspur midfielder down the pecking order at Aston Villa.

Currently in fifth place in the Championship table, Aston Villa will be determined to enjoy a successful second half of the season as they look to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
Villa will be aiming to strengthen their squad this month to help their quest and one player who has emerged as a target for Steve Bruce is Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell, as reported by The Daily Express.
Powell has excelled in League One this season, scoring ten goals and providing two assists, and previously worked with Bruce while on loan at Hull City from Manchester United in the 2015/16 season.

Given that Powell has been playing with much confidence this season, his potential arrival would be a step in the right direction for Villa.
However, if Powell does join then it could represent a blow for Josh Onomah, who has struggled for consistency since joining on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Tottenham youngster is clearly talented and the 20-year-old will be determined to hold down a regular place in the starting lineup for the remainder of the campaign, but the arrival of Powell would certainly make matters very difficult for him.
At present, if Powell joined then Onomah is the player who is most likely to suffer. However, Powell, in his current form, would represent an upgrade on Onomah and would boost Villa’s chances of going up.
While a few cards still have to fall a certain way for things to play out like this, Tottenham may wonder if Onomah is going to get sufficient game time in early 2018.
