Liverpool are being linked with an £87 million summer bid for RB Leipzig attacker Timo Werner by German publication Bild.

Werner has once again impressed with the Bundesliga outfit this season, scoring 18 goals in 37 matches in all competitions and is set to lead Germany’s attacking line at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is said to be in contact with the 22-year-old’s agent, Karlheinz Forster, over the prospect of a switch to Anfield.

Disrupting the attack

While Mohamed Salah has stolen many of the headlines with his outstanding first campaign on Merseyside – with 36 goals in 41 games – in truth that success is largely due to those around him.

Alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, who have 14 and 23 strikes respectively in 2017/18, Salah makes up one third of one of the most efficient and fluid attacks in European football.

Firmino is a totally unselfish number nine whose movement off the ball allows others to shine, so how would bringing in a club record signing who would expect to start disrupt what is currently a harmonious offensive unit?
