Tottenham Hotspur manager’s comments could have a knock on effect.

Just when it seemed there was no way Mauricio Pochettino could possibly want to leave Tottenham Hotspur, the manager has thrown fresh uncertainty on his situation.

Pochettino hinted last week he could walk away if Spurs win the Champions League and bow out on a high, BBC Sport reported.

Pochettino’s comments will not help Spurs with the futures of key players Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen.

Both players are out of contract at end of next season, while Alderweireld has a release clause which enables clubs to sign him on the cheap this summer, The Guardian report.

Tottenham’s progression to the Champions League final has given Spurs a strong hand to renew both players’ contracts, proving they can compete at the very top level.

This three week gap before the final would have provided an ideal chance to re-negotiate with both players.

Instead Pochettino’s non-committal comments on his own future will only place more doubt in the minds of Eriksen and Alderweireld.

Until the manager’s future is 100 per cent, the key duo will be reluctant to make any big decisions of their own.
