West Ham United are reportedly keen on striker Chuba Akpom.
West Ham United have snapped up striker Sebastien Haller, marking a major signing for their strikeforce – but one more attacker may still be needed.
The Hammers have seen Lucas Perez, Andy Carroll and Marko Arnautovic leave the club this summer, reducing Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking options.
One more striker would be ideal, but with much of West Ham’s budget spent on Haller and Pablo Fornals, they may have to settle for a cheaper option.
The Daily Mail report that West Ham now want PAOK Salonika striker Chuba Akpom, formerly of Arsenal, in a budget move to bolster Pellegrini’s attack.
Akpom, 23, hit six goals and four assists in 20 league games for PAOK last season, helping them win the Greek Super League title – and is now on West Ham’s radar.
That would be a return to the club of some sort for Akpom, as he actually spent three years training with the Hammers as a kid.
Alex Iwobi confirmed in 2016, as quoted by the London Evening Standard, that both he and Akpom were training with both Arsenal and West Ham from the ages of six and nine, and when they were old enough to pick a team, they both chose Arsenal.
Akpom was one that got away from West Ham almost 15 years ago, and by moving to sign him now, they could make up for lost time – and potentially give him a Premier League chance that Arsenal never did.
