Tottenham are interested in Watford’s Richarlison but how does he compare to current stars Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

Tottenham Hotspur are reported by the Evening Standard to be considering a move to sign in-form Watford attacker Richarlison in the January transfer window.

Chelsea are also keeping tabs and the rumours have clearly been strong enough for Hornets chief executive Scott Duxbury to issue a hands off warning for the player the club signed for £11.5m from Fluminense in July.

It is hardly a surprise the biggest Premier League sides are already showing an interest in Richarlison with the forward having scored five league goals and provided three assists in 14 league games already this season.

For a Spurs team who have lost three, drawn one and won one (against bottom-placed Crystal Palace) of their last five matches in the English top flight, recruiting players with those sort of stats must seem appealing.

In Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred 3-4-3 system Richarlison would be likely to play in one of the two attacking midfield roles behind striker Harry Kane – currently home to Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

So how does the 20-year-old compare? Well his aforementioned goals and assists tally is superior, with Alli and Eriksen having two assists and three goals apiece.

However, for chances created (16), key passes (13) and shot accuracy (28%) the Brazilian is behind the Tottenham duo (Alli – 24 chances created, 22 key passes, 32% shot accuracy. Eriksen – 32 chances created, 30 key passes, 56% shot accuracy).

Yet there has been a belief recently because of the North Londoners’ downturn in form that perhaps the two are being used too much and their performances are being affected, so maybe the addition of a player who can hit the ground running in Richarlison could be exactly what Pochettino needs to take some of the pressure off Alli and Eriksen.
