Over the weekend, the Golden State Warriors made several moves that could have a significant impact on Jonathan Kuminga and Seth Curry.
Golden State had spent much of the offseason trying to address the Jonathan Kuminga situation. That kept other decisions on hold until they managed to make some progress.
Last Sunday, Al Horford agreed to a multi-year deal, bringing an end to what had been a lengthy standoff between the two sides.
Soon after, De’Anthony Melton and Gary Payton II joined him as new signings. The team also handed rookie Will Richard a four-year contract.
Now it seems one of those contracts could affect whether or not Jonathan Kuminga and Seth Curry end up staying with the Warriors.
Will Richard’s deal could get in the way of Jonathan Kuminga and Seth Curry moves

Golden State’s decision to give #56 pick Will Richard a guaranteed contract has added another layer of complexity to their efforts to sign deals with Kuminga and Curry.
The team does not have enough cap space left to sign Kuminga to the $75 million deal they have offered if they also want to add Curry on a veteran minimum for the final roster spot.
If Golden State is set on bringing in Steph’s brother, then the Congolese forward would have to come in at $74.5 million, leaving just enough room for Curry’s $2.3 million minimum cap hit.
The Warriors already had an open two-way slot that could have been used for Richard, who, as a second-round pick, would have fit that role naturally. So their latest move of the rookie left many fans confused.
Jonathan Kuminga prepared to take less money if player option is included
While the Warriors are in a tough spot, there is a simple way out of their current dilemma.
Kuminga has shown he is open to helping the team manage the cap by taking less money, but he still wants one thing in return, a player option for his final year.
Golden State know they cannot afford to be rigid with the Congolese. And adding a player option does not hurt his trade value down the line either.
Kuminga is currently expected to skip media day due to the ongoing contract talks. The hope is that both sides can reach an agreement before the 1 October deadline.
