Thierry Henry has stated that Virgil van Dijk must be feeling ‘unlucky’ after he was denied a goal during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Napoli in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

After missing a number of guilt-edge chances against Nottingham Forest a couple of weeks ago, Henry noticed Van Dijk’s reaction when his header was saved and then pushed over the line by Darwin Nunez at Anfield.

It was the dying moments of the game, the Reds had already scored in similar circumstances when Nunez’s header was saved following a corner and Mo Salah reacted quickest to put the ball into the back of the net.

Well, moments after that opener, it was Van Dijk winning the header from the corner this time, but it was Nunez scoring from barely a yard out.

When Nunez initially scored that goal, Van Dijk had his head in his hands because the flag went up for offside, only for VAR to correct that call.

Former Premier League striker Thierry Henry reacted to that moment and how the fortune just wasn’t with the ice-cool Dutchman, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (01/11/22 at 10:30 pm).

“Finally they got lucky, I love the reaction of Van Dijk,” said Henry. “He must be thinking of Nottingham Forest and ‘oh, how unlucky am I?!’ The opportunities he had and everything.

“But, the most important thing, is this guy (Nunez) is getting goals and I think it’s very important that he’s getting goals and I think it’s very good for Liverpool.”

KONATE TO PARTNER VAN DIJK AT SPURS?

Ibrahima Konate returned to action against Napoli and helped Liverpool keep a clean sheet against the best team in Europe.

Not only were the Serie A leaders unbeaten this term, but they were also on a 13-game winning run.

Joe Gomez has been the one to partner Van Dijk in recent weeks, but as he proved against Leeds United, he isn’t having the best of times.

At the weekend, Liverpool travel to north London to take on the firepower of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Konate starts because the Reds have missed his presence.
