Aston Villa fans have expressed their disappointment after their club released an injury update on Marvelous Nakamba ahead of their weekend clash against Burnley.

Nakamba arrived at Villa in 2019 from Club Brugge but has only recently started to shine for the Birmingham club.

Marvelous Nakamba form halted by injury

He recently won the club’s November Player of the Month award and has been instrumental to their improved form since Steven Gerrard’s appointment as manager.

When the Zimbabwe international made Villa’s XI for their clash against Liverpool at Anfield last weekend, it was his seventh consecutive Premier League start.

However, he was substituted after 57 minutes with an issue and it turns out that he had actually sustained a serious knee injury.

Steven Gerrard stated earlier this week that the result of an MRI scan was “not good” [The Athletic] and on Friday afternoon, Villa released a more detailed update.

The good news is that he has undergone successful sugery, but the bad news is that he’s been ruled out of action for between three and four months.

“The surgeon is really happy with his operation and how it’s gone and now he’ll start his recovery process and recovery plan,” said Gerrard [AVFC.co.uk].

“He’s going to be missing for somewhere in the region of 12 weeks if it is a fantastic rehab or it could be up to 16 weeks.

“It will be somewhere in the middle of 12-16 weeks.”

Nakamba has become a real fan favourite at Villa Park in recent times, so the news is a real hammer blow.

It could force Gerrard into the transfer market next month to try to find a replacement for the 27-year-old.

Here’s a selection of reactions from supporters:

The bad news doesn’t stop there for Villa, either, as Gerrard also confirmed on Friday that Keinan Davis, Morgan Sanson, Anwar El-Ghazi, Leon Bailey and Bertrand Traore are all unavailable to face Burnley, while Ashley Young is a doubt.
