Sergio Aguero is on his way out of Manchester City, with the club confirming his exit on Monday night.
The Argentinian is out of contract at the end of the season, and City have decided to part ways with Aguero after 10 years together.
Aguero leaves a legend; he has smashed 257 goals in 384 games for City, and famously scored the last-gasp goal to win the Premier League title in 2012.
He will go down as one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history – but it all could have been so different for Aguero.
Just a matter of months before his £38million move from Atletico Madrid to City, Tottenham Hotspur actually failed with an offer of the exact same value.
Spurs thought they had landed Aguero having met his release clause, but Atletico refused to let him go due to a tax issue on the buyout value.
City swooped in just months later, leaving Harry Redknapp frustrated as he failed to sign the striker – but the move did have a knock-on effect for Spurs.
Aguero’s move to City freed up Emmanuel Adebayor to join Tottenham from the Blues – though fans would no doubt rather have had Aguero.

Who knows how Spurs could have fared with Aguero; there’s an alternate timeline where he and Harry Kane are both at Tottenham’s disposal in attack, presenting a devastating tandem.
Spurs missed out, and Aguero went on to become a star with City. He leaves a hero, but Tottenham no doubt feel a sense of annoyance at missing out on such an icon.
Still, at least fans can remember how Aguero being offside sent Spurs through in the Champions League back in 2019. That’s his big moment with Spurs, when it could have been so much more.
