After another month of exciting Championship football, the four-man shortlist for the September manager of the month has been announced via the EFL’s official website.

Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner took home the accolade in August as his side picked up 13 points in five games.

He does not feature on the list for September, though, despite his side remaining at the top of the pile as the season heads into an international break.

Instead, it is his challengers for top spot who all make it onto the list. Both Alex Neil and Rafa Benitez are among the candidates, with their sides sitting second and third respectively.

Reading manager Jaap Stam is in, the Royals sit eighth in the table, while Carlos Carvalhal is also on the shortlist with his side just a place behind Stam’s in ninth.

So who deserves to walk away with the prize? Here’s what the stats have to say.

In terms of victories, Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday both managed four from five games, while Newcastle and Reading picked up three.

It is a similar tale in terms of draws, with the latter two picking up one and their competitor’s none. Each team lost one game across the month.

As a result, Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday managed to pick up 12 points from 15 with Newcastle and Reading only picked up ten.

It was the Canaries and the Magpies who dominated the goalscoring, though, as they both put 13 past their opponents.

Alex Neil’s side were the worst defensively, conceding nine in five the games, the rest only let in six.

Newcastle were by far the best creative team, creating 11 big chances in their games while Reading were the worst with a tally of just two.

Finally, Reading were the best passers as they registered 418 accurate passes per game. Norwich were the worst of the four with a score of 285 per game.
