Hamza Choudhury is on Southampton’s radar this summer, according to the Telegraph.

The Saints are seeking a replacement for the departed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who joined Tottenham after letting his contract situation rumble on.

We’ve got three reasons the Leicester man could explode at St Mary’s right here…

High-pressing style

Southampton really catch the eye with their pressing under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Choudhury’s game isn’t that refined yet but he is certainly full of energy.

For a holding midfielder, his game is more about getting in the faces of opponents and making challenge than holding his position and making interceptions.

That could be perfect for Hasenhuttl’s high-pressing style.

Gary Lineker: A big success on and off the pitch

  1. Gary Lineker enjoyed a prolific club career

Lineker featured for Leicester City, Everton and Tottenham during his two spells in English football. He won the FA Cup with Spurs in 1991.

  2. Nou Camp marksman

Lineker is one of the few Englishmen to star for Barcelona. He won the Copa del Rey and Cup Winner’s Cup, scoring more than 50 goals in three seasons.

  3. Golden Boot winner

Lineker famously won the Golden Boot for England at the 1986 World Cup, scoring six goals. He netted 48 goals in 80 international games, third only to Sir Bobby Charlton and Wayne Rooney.

  4. Top television host

Lineker presents BBC’s Match of the Day and BT Sport’s football coverage. He is also recognisable as the face of Walker’s Crisps.

Hasenhuttl can add discipline

One feature of Choudhury’s fledgling career so far has been the number of red cards he has picked up.

That’s happened at club and international level, and needs stamping out.

Hasenhuttl is an uncompromising manager who has raised standards at Southampton and won’t tolerate that.

Regular gametime

Choudhury hasn’t quite been able to establish himself at Leicester yet, largely because of the presence of Wilfried Ndidi.

There’s a clear spot in Southampton’s team for him to take up and regular football could take him to that next level.

He needs to be playing matches regularly in the Premier League now and this looks a potential opportunity to do that.
