According to the Sun, Everton have turned their attention to Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel instead of signing Jordan Pickford from Sunderland.
Black Cats manager David Moyes has slapped a £30m price-tag on Pickford – three times more than the Toffees are prepared to pay – so instead Ronald Koeman is looking at Schmeichel.
What the Dane would bring to Goodison Park, aside from a Premier League winner’s medal and a 100 games of experience in England’s top flight, is a new dimension to Everton’s attack.
That is because Schmeichel has a fantastic ability to send flat deliveries more than 60 yards upfield with precision, instantly turning defence into attack.
During Leicester’s title-winning season often a long ball from the ‘keeper would unleash Jamie Vardy. It is something Schmeichel has worked on tirelessly and is now a key part of his game.

Koeman is less a manager of specific ideals and tactics, and more one who adapts depending on the situation. The Dutchman would certainly be open to incorporating Schmeichel’s talent, one which is relatively unique in the Premier League.
If Romelu Lukaku stays then he can certainly operate as a target-man but even if, as speculated, the striker leaves Merseyside, Koeman could well build a new look attack around the fact he would have a goalkeeper capable of providing assists.
