Manchester United could offload left-back to Tottenham.

There are not many Manchester United fans feeling very comfortable with Jose Mourinho’s treatment of Luke Shaw.

The left-back was substituted at half-time against Brighton in the FA Cup quarter-final and SkySports are now reporting the defender is ready to quit the club this summer.

Paul Scholes tipped Shaw to join Tottenham where he could work with his former Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BT Sport.

Shaw could make United look foolish if he fulfils his potential at Spurs, but this could be a calculated risk for the Red Devils.

United have been linked with signing Spurs defender Danny Rose, but a swap deal is not a switch Jose Mourinho should entertain, due to Rose’s desperately poor form and fitness struggles over the past 12 months.

Instead United should focus their efforts on Fulham sensation Ryan Sessegnon.

Sessegnon has scored 14 goals in the Championship this season at just 17-years-old.

Tottenham are considered favourites to sign the young sensation, who can play at left-back or on the wing.

The Sun yesterday reported that United are prioritising Sessegnon over Rose, and this is a smart move.

Sending Luke Shaw to Tottenham would potentially rule Spurs out of the race for Sessegnon, blocking his path to the first team in North London and distracting them from the chase for his signature.

That’s why while Jose Mourinho’s treatment of Luke Shaw will not have many United fans feeling comfortable, the end result could be that the Red Devils land the best young talent in the country, and send one of their cast-offs to rivals Tottenham.

Selling Shaw to Spurs could end up being a stroke of genius.
