The Reds have been linked with another big-money move in January but this one actually makes sense.
Unverified rumours suggest Liverpool are prepared to enter the running to sign Pedro in January, with Barcelona asking for £25 million in return for his services.
After the Reds’ disastrous – and, let’s face it, it has been disastrous – summer transfer spend, the last thing FSG would sanction is another big-money move.
Only this transfer actually makes perfect sense.
The Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal deal has proven that. The 25-year-old was a big hitter at Barcelona and left to join the Gunners for £35 million in the summer.
But, in Pedro, Liverpool would be getting a forward even more experienced than the Chilean – a World Cup winner – and for less money.
The problem with the Reds’ signings this season is that they were unproven at the requisite level. Lazar Markovic has a lot of work to do just to prove he isn’t a complete write-off, while Adam Lallana is failing to hold down a regular spot in Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI.
Pedro, however, is a completely different kettle of fish, proven at every level possible.
And so what if he isn’t Barcelona’s first choice? Sanchez wasn’t either – and just look how he is thriving in the Premier League with Arsenal.
