Taking a closer look at the latest defender to be linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
According to a recent report from the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are considering a summer move for Torino centre-back Kamil Glik.
The report claims the Serie A club are prepared to sell the 27-year-old Polish international for a fee in the region of £8million and that Spurs are interested.
So following the latest story, how does Glik compare with the centre-backs currently at Tottenham’s disposal when it comes to league performances?
| Passing Accuracy | Goals | Key passes per game | Tackles per game | Interceptions per game | Clearances per game | Long balls per game | Appearances | Mins Played | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kamil Glik | 90.8% | 6 | 0.2 | 1.4 | 2.4 | 5 | 3.7 | 22 | 1,972 |
The one standout statistic for Glik is his goal-scoring record, with the defender already netting six times in 22 league games this season (and seven in all competitions).
In that regard he is a cut above Tottenham’s current centre-halves, who have netted just twice in the league between all five of them, both curtesy of Eric Dier.
Glik’s passing accuracy of 90.8 per cent is also impressive, with Jan Vertonghen getting the closest to that figure in the league this season with 85 per cent.
| Passing Accuracy | Goals | Key passes per game | Tackles per game | Interceptions per game | Clearances per game | Long balls per game | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan Vertonghen | 85% | 0 | 0.12 | 1.35 | 2.12 | 6.81 | 5.31 | 26 | 2,270 |
| Vlad Chiriches | 83% | 0 | 0.5 | 1.83 | 3.67 | 1.67 | 5.17 | 6 | 475 |
| Federico Fazio | 81% | 0 | 0.15 | 1.23 | 2.92 | 8.69 | 6.23 | 13 | 1,147 |
| Eric Dier | 80% | 2 | 0.25 | 1.6 | 1.65 | 4.15 | 5 | 20 | 1,570 |
| Younes Kaboul | 80% | 0 | 0.36 | 1.27 | 3.09 | 7.55 | 10 | 11 | 990 |
The alleged Tottenham target also fares relatively well in terms of tackles per game although he is outshone by Vertonghen, Federico Fazio, Vlad Chiriches and Younes Kaboul when it comes to interceptions per game.
He also trails three of the five when it comes to clearances per match.
Overall, Glik’s composure on the ball and his threat in the opposition box appear to be his main strengths. But the big question is: if Tottenham are aiming to push on again next season, should they not be aiming a little higher in terms of targets?
