Leeds now seem intent on hiring Andoni Iraola as their new manager after Carlos Corberan signed a new contract at West Brom.
According to the Daily Mail, Victor Orta – Director of Football at Elland Road – has flown to Spain to hold talks with the 40-year-old in Madrid, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that he is now the favourite for the vacancy.

Well, the Spanish press – namely Marca and AS – believe Rayo Vallecano are feeling calm as Leeds target Iraola.
Interestingly, it is also said that the Rayo Vallecano want to “savour the moment” – which could suggest they are readying themselves to lose the Spaniard, who has guided them to fifth place in La Liga.
Iraola’s contract expires at the end of the season, so it is a pivotal moment in his managerial career as Leeds pursue his signature.
When asked about interest in his services following his side’s 2-0 win over Almeria on Monday, the Spanish tactician opted to praise his players for making him look good, with the Mirror quoting him as saying: “Football belongs to the footballers. We are not that important. The players make us look better. I am aware of what my role is.”
Iraola would be a fine Leeds manager
Clearly, Iraola is a humble figure based on those comments, and it seems his characteristics would go down well with those at Elland Road, who idolised a similarly grounded man in Marcelo Bielsa.
Compensation for prising Iraola away from Rayo Vallecano presumably wouldn’t be too expensive given the little time remaining on his contract.
Additionally, his footballing principles seem aligned with Bielsa’s – the pair worked together at Athletic Bilbao, and his high pressing style has captivated many in Spain as his side sit on the brink of the Champions League qualification spots.
