Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joey Barton was given an extra week suspension by the Ibrox club.

Salvaging his Rangers career isn’t Joey Barton’s only mountainous task.
One day after Rangers extended Barton’s three-week suspension by another week, the 34-year-old took to the Scottish Highlands and scaled Ben Lomond in an effort to take his mind off his problems at the Glasgow club.

The former Newcastle United midfielder has given himself a figurative mountain to climb following the training-round row with team-mate Andy Halliday and manager Mark Warburton which has left his career with the Gers hanging in the balance.
But Barton looked in good spirits on Monday as he scaled the Loch Lomond-based Alp, taking to Instagram to show off his day.

Unlike descending down the mountain, the way back for Barton at Rangers seems to be growing ever more treacherous and it remains to be seen if he will ever pull on the club’s shirt again.
If he doesn’t, then the 5-1 defeat at Old Firm rivals Celtic will have been his last appearance for Rangers. That being said, Barton, who joined Warburton’s side in the summer after helping Burnley win Premier League promotion last season, is a strong character and he won’t want to be remembered in Glasgow for the events of recent weeks.
If there is a way back for him at Ibrox, he will find it.
