Jordan Rossiter joined Glasgow Rangers from Liverpool last summer, but has endured a frustrating spell at Ibrox.

There is no question that when Rangers landed Jordan Rossiter from Liverpool back in May 2016, there were few supporters from both clubs who thought that the Gers were not pulling off a major coup.

The midfielder appeared to boast a huge amount of potential, so the move seemed to act as a real statement from the Light Blues ahead of their return to the Scottish Premiership.

Unfortunately however, looking through some of the tweets the fans sent following the announcement of the deal now make somewhat sad reading given how the 20-year-old’s Ibrox spell has so far panned out.

Injury blighted his first season with the club as he did not add to the six appearances he made in August, and that would have surely been all the more frustrating for the former Reds man given that Joey Barton’s premature departure left Mark Warburton crying out for someone to fill void in the middle of the park.

And while he appears to have put his injury problems behind him, he now faces an increased amount of competition for a chance under Pedro Caixinha, with Graham Dorrans, Ryan Jack, Carlos Pena and Jason Holt all competing for a chance – with the former pair seemingly at the top of the pecking order at the moment.

Though Rossiter is clearly talented and arguably has the quality to be a regular in the Gers’ midfield, Caixinha would surely be forgiven for not making him a focal point of the team through fear that he could be injury-prone.

Of course, Rossiter undoubtedly has more than enough time to turn it around and prove that the fans’ optimism when he signed was not misplaced – but unfortunately, the situation does not look as good as it perhaps should do for the midfielder.
