Joel Dahmen just had one of the most iconic moments in golfing history.

On the legendary 16th hole at the WM Phoenix Open, the PGA Tour winner missed the green with his tee shot to a chorus of boos from the fans. But those boos quickly turned to cheers after what he did next.

Dahmen put on a Seattle Seahawks helmet, a nod to the Super Bowl the Seahawks are set to play this Sunday against the New England Patriots. He walked down to the green wearing the helmet, then, after taking it off, he stepped over the ball and chipped in for a birdie.

It was an incredible display of showmanship, and what’s more, he was wearing an official helmet from the team. So how did he get his hands on it?

How Joel Dahmen’s caddie got him an official Seattle Seahawks helmet

The helmet Dahmen was wearing was from the team, and we were able to get it to him because his caddie, Ben Hulka, was once the Seahawks’ equipment manager.

Dahmen broke down the moment after the round: “Yeah, you know, being a sponsor invite this week, you try to embrace it. It’s my hometown so I love being here, love the event. Whether you’re in first place or last place you’re still amped up on 16.

“We were trying to figure out what to do to be subtle but still for the Seahawks. So my Caddie, Ben Hulka, he used to be the equipment manager for the Seahawks. He has the official helmet, so he brought that out; threw that on.

“It was debatable about throwing it on after such a bad shot in there, but, yeah, hit an unbelievable pitch shot that rolled in like a putt, and the environment is really special after that.”

As a Seahawks fan, Dahmen’s nerves are bound to be jangling as much on Sunday night as they were when he stepped over the ball on the 16th. But he thinks he’ll be in for a comfortable evening.

Joel Dahmen predicts the Super Bowl score

Seattle enters the Super Bowl as favorites over the Patriots, but it’s always an anxious affair supporting your team in the big game.

But the PGA Tour pro remains confident in his team. He was asked if he was taking the “over” on the betting line, and he said, “I don’t know why the line is only four and a half. We’re going to win by two touchdowns I think.

“There is no way — there is nothing on their team that’s scary for us right now. Unless Drake Maye runs for 150 yards, but I don’t see that happening.”

He continued, “Seattle as a whole is mostly pessimistic sports fans. This optimism we have going into Sunday is very interesting.”

Seattle had one of the most heartbreaking losses in Super Bowl history against the Patriots in 2015, so a two-touchdown win would be therapeutic for this team.
