Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has rejected the chance to join Chelsea, which could affect Newcastle’s deal for Kenedy.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will not become a Chelsea player this summer despite his current club Arsenal accepting a £40m bid from the Blues.

That is because the BBC reports the 24-year-old has rejected the move over fears he will be played as a wing-back and favours a switch to Liverpool instead.

While this will understandably come as a blow at Stamford Bridge, the decision could also have an adverse effect on Newcastle United as well.

According to the Telegraph, the Magpies were set to seal a loan deal for Kenedy once Oxlade-Chamberlain had completed his move to West London.

Yet with that no longer happening, there will be doubts over whether Antonio Conte will want to lose the Brazilian when he has no adequate replacement for him at wing-back.

This will only pile the misery on Newcastle and manager Rafa Benitez ahead of what was expected to be frustrating end to the transfer window in any case, with the club failing to complete many of the deals they had hoped to this summer.
