How Oscar’s ‘dream’ could see him axed by Mourinho this summer

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has suggested Oscar has taken his eye off the ball towards the end of the season.

Jose Mourinho feels Oscar’s dip in form at Stamford Bridge is a result of his focus towards a home World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Not many players get the chance to play at a World Cup in front of their own fans but if Mourinho is accurate, it could backfire for the playmaker this summer.

Oscar started the season as Mourinho’s main number ten and seemingly solidified that position when Mourinho commissioned the big money sale of Juan Mata to Manchester United for £37 million.

However, his form has dipped over the second half of the campaign to the point where the boss is now opting against using a cast iron number ten in his first team.

French giants Paris Saint-Germain have been sniffing around two Chelsea players for most of the season; Eden Hazard and the man himself, Oscar.

If Mourinho feels that the Brazilian midfielder doesn’t have his complete focus on his job with the West Londoners then he could be tempted to bite should PSG dangle a lucrative enough carrot in front of the Portuguese this summer.

“He was up and down, trying to arrive in a game but not managing it, or being a doubt when the game was too big for a doubtful player. So he arrived in the crucial moment of the season in a low,” said Mourinho.

“I can imagine, in a couple of weeks, he will be in a high and during the World Cup he will be in a high.”

Mourinho has made it very clear to his Chelsea squad this season that he demands their full focus and an intense work ethic as they try and create a sustainable side to compete on domestic and European fronts over the next few seasons.

Chelsea are faced with a season where they may potentially end the year without a piece of silverware.

That would be rare for a coach of Mourinho’s calibre but it could prompt him to demand even more from his players in key positions and as the current number ten, Oscar will be even more under the magnifying glass.

If the boss isn’t convinced after the World Cup then he may push the Brazilian towards the fire exit.
